INTERVIEW: Edy @Colfersgustin

Edy is a 21 years old girl who lives in the South of Italy. She works in economy and studies too. She loves videogames, song writing, play the piano, read, workout and watching tv shows, her favorite tv shows are Glee, The Flash, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Arrow, Charmed, Faking It, etc. She describes herself as someone you either love or hate, there's no in between. She’s witty but also annoying and distant. You need to understand her to love her. She’s also creative and “an incredible idiot”.

"I had never seen a show with such a talented and good-looking cast before."

When and why did you start watching Glee?

Glee S2 EP16

A friend of mine made me watch an episode (2.16) and I got really passionate because I love music and so I started catching on until I was involved in the fandom. It was in the summer between s2 and S3.

And what did you like the most about Glee?

I liked Kurt and Quinn mostly at first sight, but then watching it, I really enjoyed the fact that it dealt with issues that were usually ignored or minimized on other tv shows. I loved the covers and the fact that the cast seemed so close. I had never seen a show with such a talented and good-looking cast before.

When did you really become a part of the Glee fandom?

That is a very complicated question. At first I was in the Italian Glee fandom, I got friends there by writing FanFiction but then I eventually figured out that fandom didn't suit me and I started tweeting in English and being on Tumblr more. I guess it was just gradual and it happened without me realizing even.

"I got a lot of hate and awful comments, like prompts of killing myself"

What is your opinion about the fandom?

The Glee fandom is complicated. Some people are very young and have a hard time valuing their words and the fact that they're addressed to real people over fictional characters and couples. It's problematic but then again it happens in every fandom. I guess between gleeks the situation just got out of hand for some reason.

What are your most memorable dramas?

Well, being I in small ship-fandoms, I got a lot of hate and awful comments, like prompts of killing myself and so. Some people create new accounts to hate on me after I blocked them which is why I've grown extremely skeptical over a few fandoms. But at the end of the day, you shake it off, so specific episodes don't stay stuck in your mind.

What is the best thing about the fandom?

I really love how creative glee fandom is. We have the best gifs and some of the best arts, let alone fan fiction. I really like how we're invested. Sometimes it's a bad thing, but when it comes to fan work, I think glee fandom owns the internet.

"When I got out of the Italian bubble, I found out many people supported Kurtbastian"

When and why did you start shipping Kurtbastian?
Super long story. So I was a hardcore Klainer and Crisscolfer shipper back in the days, but it never felt too real. I shipped it a lot but I didn't feel it. Kurtbastian was a lighting in my clean sky at first. The idea that I liked it upset me, because I knew it meant being pushed away by fandom friends and being a loner. Chris and Grant had that chemistry that after the first time I watched 3.05 left me dumbstruck. It was so out of what is written and amusing, I had a hard time accepting that I loved what they personally put in the banter. When I got out of the Italian bubble, I found out many people supported Kurtbastian and even if it was born as a hot ship, many writers and artists gave a sense of development and characters that is extremely fascinating and interesting. Also, I have personal references to what a relationship like fanon Kurtbastian is, and it is completely different from what many people think. I had a fiancé some time ago and when we met, the first thing I told him was like "Are you wearing girl shoes?". And our relationship worked a lot like that, it did work in amazing ways. I have never been more in love.

Still in the same topic: Kurtbastian made you like Grant?

No, it was quite a parallel. I grew fond of Grant at the same time because he was sweet. I feel in love with him with “A Mother's Nightmare” though because he had so many dramatic scenes and he killed it in all.

What is your opinion about shipping two real people? Like in your case: Colfin.

They were very flirty back then and both single, that we knew, so it kind of happened. Shipping two real people can be done in a smart way. You just need to be aware that them being together is a fantasy you enjoy but it shouldn't affect their life in any way. It's okay if you don't take it too far.

By take it too far do you mean anyone in particular?

I do, and the fact that there's even a question about this means everyone shares that thought.

"Characters I love won't get a decent storyline"

What do you hope to see on Glee S6?

Oh, God. I hope Brittana is treated decently because I know characters I love won't get a decent storyline that doesn't revolve around others. I'll just stick to wanting good music and cast interaction.

Why do you think Heather and Naya won't be on the finale?

Maybe they've filmed something already. Maybe they don't care. Only time will tell us. I just wish everyone is in it. It's the only fair deal.

Can you imagine how the end will be?
It will probably feel warm and we will be teary. Something nostalgic I guess. Let's hope it will also include happy endings.

This is my first english interview and I want to thank Edy a lot for all the patience, she was an amazing interviewee, she was honest and never showed any problem with the questions. Hope you read more of these interviews.
